Sexual Solutions - How did we get the idea? - Part 2

On our last post, was at my wits end. I had been searching the internet for possible solutions to our problem but was coming up woefully short. After viewing dozens of sites for counselors, therapists, retreats, workshops, surveys, and questionnaires (not to mention the gimmics, scams and hoaxes), I finally decided that if anything was going to help get us through this difficult period, I was going to have to develop it myself.

I knew that communication was the key. If we could just break the stalemate and begin an honest open dialogue, I knew that we could go from there and would be on our way to solving our problem. I also felt that a multiple choice questionnaire format would work best. There would be a minimum of writing and the questions and answers could be structured in such a way that our true thoughts, feelings, desires and fantasies could be shared with each other in a non-threatening way.  So I started the task of developing this method upon which I had pinned all my hopes for the future of our relationship - our marriage.

After many weeks of late nights work, I finally had a crude, bare-bones document that I believed would work. The questions were detailed and thorough and the answers included many different possibilities that covered a wide range of viewpoints. The form was flexible enough to allow answers that may not have been included in the selections and there was provisions for additional comments, if we desired.

Following are a few sample questions from the original program:

I think being sexy means (Check all that apply):
q Pretty face
q Nice body
q Large breasts
q Defined bottom
q Good hair
q Good muscle tone
q Attitude
q Style of clothing
q Talent (Dancing, singing, etc)
q All of the above
q Other:

I think about sex.
q Yes
q No
If yes, how often do I think about sex?

Sex with my partner is usually initiated by:
q Me
q My partner
q It’s about equal
q Neither, it just happens
q Not sure
If not by you, why not?
q Embarrassed
q Shy
q Afraid of my partner’s response
q Afraid of what others will think of me
q Was taught that good people don’t do that
q Afraid of letting go
q All of the above
q Other:

I wish my partner would initiate sex more often.
q Yes
q No

I decided to start from stratch - as though my wife and I had never talked about any of this before. By giving us a fresh start, it seemed to me that we could level the playing field, so to speak.  Now that I had the form developed, I had to decide when and how to see if she would be willing to participate. More on that in a few days.
